Oil BURNER Commissioning in Northumberland
When a new appliance is installed, it is a legal requirement that it is commissioned. This can be a bit of a Grey area due to what is defined as a "Commission". Commissioning of the heating system, hot water circuits and electrical safety and compliance i.e. ensuring pipe work is installed correctly, controls are wired and working correctly and balancing of the system etc. is undertaken by the Installer and/or electrician. The burner then needs to be checked for safe and efficient operation and the flue gas emissions are tested using a combustion analyzer and fine tuned to give optimum performance; that's were we come in. Commissioning of the burner involves a basic check of the installation and of the installers’ paperwork, checking and fine tuning the appliance for site conditions to ensure optimum efficiency and then completing our section of the relevant warranty cards, log books or declaration certificates.
Although it is stated that it is the installers’ responsibility to ensure the appliance is commissioned, it is not always their responsibility to pay for it; that would depend on what was included for the Installation cost. We will not commission burners for anyone who is not OFTEC Registered, unless they have carried out the work under a Building License from the Local Authority. The "Commissioning"Service we offer is not, and has not anything to do with the system and controls; it is only to ensure the safe and correct operation of the burner and to ensure the burner emissions are within safe and acceptable levels.
No one is allowed to sign off an unregistered persons work other than the Building Inspector.
After a visit
During the replacement of flexi oil lines and some parts, oil may spill and will leave a smell. If the smell gets worse or has not disappeared or lessened within 24hrs you must inform us immediately.
We would recommend you check for any smell or leakage of oil or water after a service or call out at your oil tank or boiler/cooker, especially if they are situated in an area that is not visited on a regular basis. If your problem was pressure related please make sure you check your pressure on a regular basis to ensure the problem is rectified, so as not to cause further damage to components.
